The Crusader “matmen” are excited for the upcoming season. The crusaders are coming off their best season in team history, with a fourth place finish at team state. Additionally, the team had nine state qualifiers, tying the team record. With a stacked team this season, the Crusaders are looking to have another monster season.
The coaches think this is one of the most talented teams we have ever had.
Coach Loughney said, “This year’s wrestling team is one of the best in Brother Rice history. We have a great group of guys that are dedicated to the task and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to be the best wrestlers, and as men of Edmund, they can possibly be.”
The mindset of a wrestler is to improve after each match and improve each season. Last season, sophomore Daniel Costello placed sixth at state.
Costello said, “I’m just excited to be on the mat again. Putting in more work outside of practice is going to be needed to achieve my goal of climbing the podium.”
Senior Captain Jimmy Crane said, “I think we’re all ready for the season. I can see a lot of people on the team qualifying for state this year. I’m ready to have a big season this year to end my Brother Rice wrestling career.”
Crane qualified for state last season and is looking forward to placing this year.
There is a lot of confidence and energy radiating from the wrestling team right now. As a team member, the energy in every practice, drill, and move is clear. I am excited for my senior season and I am going to leave everything on the mat. The other seniors and the rest of the team agree we have big things coming for us this season.
