This past week the Brother Rice Skating Crusaders beat Mount Carmel 8-3. Unlike every other game of the year, this was the Winter Classic, the only game played outside.

The Crusaders started off the game hot, going up 8-0 in the second period. Matt Moro had a hat trick and Luke Lawrence had two.

“We worked hard in practice all week and we’re ready for this game,” said #8 Nick Francis.

It really showed as the Crusaders blew away the Caravan. After going up 8-0 in the second period, they let up three goals. The Crusaders dominated the ice, the whole game they had the lead.

This game is also our current seniors’ last game outside as Crusaders. Once a year, they play outside and it has come to an end for these eight seniors.

“There’s just something about playing outside that makes it so fun. It’s definitely going to be one of the biggest parts I will miss about playing here at Brother Rice,” said #7 Dan Reardon.

It seems like the Crusaders enjoyed playing outside more than anything. It looked like pond hockey – they were just having fun.

“Although it was very cold outside, it was a great experience that I will never forget,” said #10 William Jeffers.

This will be a game the senior skaters look back on forever. It’s their last time playing as a team outside.
