Winter break is over, and the second semester is starting. Coming back to school after winter break can seem harder than coming back after summer. Luckily, intramural basketball is right around the corner to make the return a little easier.

As it enters its third season at Brother Rice, intramural basketball has been one of the most popular activities for students to participate in. Like the flag football tournament, intramural basketball brings out friendly competition between Crusaders. Students can showcase their skills and break their friends’ ankles on a crossover.

“I am really looking forward to it,” said junior Nolan Leonard. “Can’t wait to meet new guys and strengthen relationships with people I already know. My sweet left-handed jump shot is going to make Team Miller a dangerous team!”

Team Klinger took home the championship last year and is looking to repeat as champions. However, two key players from last year’s team, John and Zach Mikrut ‘25 will not be on the team due to playing varsity basketball.

Senior Logan Warda said, “It’s going to be a fun time. I’m looking forward to scoring some buckets and hopefully taking home the championship.”

The captains meeting will take place on Monday, Jan. 13, and the first day of games will start Thursday, Jan. 16.

Senior Matt Olsen said, “I’m confident that my team can get the job done. As captain, I have to motivate the team to perform to the best of their ability and I will make sure we do just that.”
