On Feb. 22, Brother Rice basketball senior Jack Weigus surpassed 1,500 career varsity points. This is an impressive achievement for Weigus and a true testament to his high school basketball journey.
In a short time, Weigus made a name for himself as a Crusader. He transferred to Brother Rice this fall after attending Hinsdale South for three years. He has come very far, as not too long ago, Jack was still figuring out where his classrooms were and learning his new classmates’ names. He did all of this while staying busy on the court, breaking records, and being named to the Chicago Catholic League All-Conference team.
“Scoring 1,500 points was just a testament to the thousands of hours I’ve spent in the gym, and doing it at Brother Rice is awesome because I’ve felt nothing but love and support since I’ve gotten here,” Weigus said.
Although Weigus has only been a Crusader for a short time, his teammates praise him and recognize his adaptability.
“Jack came to Brother Rice and did everything he’s been asked. Not many players can walk into a whole new environment and make it their home,” senior Caden Workman said.
Weigus credits his team and the Brother Rice community for making his transition smooth.
“The transition to Rice was very easy because of the people around me. The coaches and players have allowed me to seamlessly fit in with the team,” he said.
The Crusaders will face Hillcrest on March 4 for the sectional semifinal.
