Star senior football player King Liggins earned the number 1 jersey for the football program, but he decided he didn’t want it for himself; he had another recipient in mind.
At Brother Rice, the number 1 jersey is awarded to the player who exemplifies leadership, accountability, effort, commitment, and discipline. King worked hard for three years and certainly deserved the honor, but he wanted to give it to another deserving member of the BRotherhood: sophomore Parker Baudo.
Parker Baudo is a member of the Mt. Sion Program, which provides an opportunity for kids with special needs to attend Brother Rice. The whole team stood by chanting Parker’s name as King gave him the number 1 jersey.
“Seeing kids like Parker and the other kids in the Mt. Sion Program motivates me every day because I realize how lucky I am to be able to play the game I love,” Liggins said.
Parker Baudo loves being a manager for the sophomore and varsity football teams; he puts smiles on the players’ faces while he helps manage the team.
“(Parker) is truly a part of the team, no matter if he’s playing or not,” said senior defensive tackle Emmet McDonough.
Senior edge rusher Mikey Fitzgerald said, “Parker deserves that jersey more than anyone. He loves this team more than anything, and the boys know he will be by our side if we win or lose.”
King couldn’t have given his jersey to a more deserving kid. Parker will now get to wear his favorite jersey every Friday night with his favorite team.
