The Brother Rice lacrosse team is looking forward to a pretty good season this year.
After hiring Head Coach Thomas Haggerty at the start of the 2021 season, the Crusaders have had a complete rebuild of their program.
After the first day of practice of the 2022 season, Coach Haggerty said, “I am very excited for this year’s season. There is a lot more energy than last year’s first practice.”
Last year the Crusaders did not have a great season. They were below a 500 record along with being short on players.
Senior Gavin Ward said, “Having a lot more players this year will definitely help us get more guys playing time on the field.”
There are some key players to look out for this season. Jacob Wizgird, senior defenseman, is a great player who is never afraid to take a hit.
Jacob is a great example of a hardworking player because he works hard and gives his best in practice.
Wizgird said, “I am very excited for the season. Through the first week of practices we had a lot of games we played. It has been very competitive every day and that is something very enjoyable. We have a lot of talented underclassmen, and I am very excited to play our first game!”
The Crusaders ended last season on a rough loss in the playoffs against St. Rita. This year they play Kenwood Academy on Mar. 15, 2022.
