In the upcoming week, one of the most popular tournaments in the U.S. will begin its selection process of picking teams to compete. Sixty-four colleges from all over the country will play in hopes of coming out on top. Anything is possible in a win or go home situation.

Senior Charlie Boyer said, “My friends and I can’t wait, and we made our own bracket pool. In the end, I’ll be the one with their money in my pocket.”

Every year, basketball fans around the country make their own brackets predicting the winner of each game. It is nearly impossible to currently guess every game and has never been done before. There is a 1 in 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 chance of getting a perfect bracket with the odds being a little bit better if the person has knowledge about basketball.

Senior Sean Curran said, “I’m excited. It’ll be interesting to see all the upsets that will happen this year. In March, you never know what will happen.”

Cinderella runs happen every year. For those who don’t know, a Cinderella run is when a team greatly exceeds expectations and goes farther in the tournament than expected. Last year, FAU made a deep run, making it to the Final Four.

Senior Jayson Polickey said, “I think UConn will come out on top. They’ve been a dominant team for a while, and I think they will be back-to-back champs.”

UConn is the projected one-seed, but that doesn’t mean they’ll win the title again. Upsets happen all the time, and that is one of the best parts of March Madness.

Anything can happen.
