Last Friday, Sept. 20, the freshman class had its retreat. For everyone else, it was an e-learning day. I decided to take advantage of this day off and visit Butler University. On Wednesday, Sept. 18, Brother Rice and Mother McAuley held a college fair. I attended the fair and spoke with many colleges. College Rep. Laura Schutt was working the table for Butler.

Schutt said, “You’re first going to begin with an information session given by one of the admissions counselors in our office. It will give you a comprehensive overview of everything at Butler. After that, you will meet up with our student tour guides who will take you around campus. You will see all the different academic buildings, learning about campus life, and all the fun and different activities our students are involved in.”

I arrived on campus at around 10 a.m. I headed to Robertson Hall where we would meet and begin the day. As Schutt said, we went over a lot of the basics of Butler, including academics, average ACT and GPA, tuition, different clubs and activities, along with many more facts.

After that, we met our tour guides who took us around campus. We went through different academic buildings and also checked out the green spaces surrounding all the buildings. We saw the dorms, dining halls, and even the recreation center.

Butler Student Ambassador Sam Lineweaver said, “I had a unique perspective because I basically grew up on campus. It just felt so close to home and so familiar, and knowisng all the professors because they were all at my house being co-workers with my mom. It felt very comfortable and safe here on campus.”

The tour ended and I really enjoyed the visit. The campus was amazing and it was a great environment.

Sophomore Edyn Curry said, “I would say especially for senior year, don’t worry about things too much. I feel like my senior year I tried to be involved in everything and be everywhere, and it’s ok to give yourself grace. Make sure that you’re doing ok mentally and physically before you try to take on too much. It’s ok to not be ok and to focus on yourself.”

Currently, I am in the college application process. With all the information I have gained over this one visit, I am excited to continue my search. I plan to use all the resources I learned on this visit and apply them to the rest of the college application process. I can’t wait to go explore some more schools!
