Crusader fans one and all-get on your feet! The Standard is back and better than ever. My name is Nolan Leonard and I am so excited to be the Editor-in-Chief for the 2025-26 school year.
On behalf of the entire staff, I look forward to bringing the news to you. We will cover just about anything Brother Rice ranging from Friday Night Lights in the fall to whether or not the cafeteria cookies are good, and everything in between.
Senior Aidan Walsh told me he was happy to be a member of The Standard: “I saw it as an opportunity to cover some cool things and help me gain experience for college.”
Staff member Aidan Leary ‘26 echoed similar sentiments, “I joined because I wanted to write about school activities and sports, while also creating the yearbook.”
This class will help students develop their writing, photography and editing skills, all while having the honor to deliver the latest happenings here at 99th and Pulaski. Some students have even used this class as a springboard to a career in journalism.
Recent class visitor Brendan Reidy ‘17 spoke highly of his time at Br. Rice: “BRTV is the premier broadcasting program on the southside and I wouldn’t be where I am today without getting my start at Brother Rice. The broadcasting program set me up perfectly for college and I love seeing how far it’s come since I graduated back in 2017.” Brendan is one of the youngest sports directors in the country, and received the Silver Dome Award for best TV Sportscaster from the Illinois Broadcasters Association.
