On Friday, Jan. 17, and Saturday, Jan. 18, some members of the Brother Rice Track and Field team participated in their first meet at the CYUP Misfits invite. Six athletes competed at the meet which was held at Gately Stadium.
On Friday, Gavin O’Connor ran the mile and took 9th place overall with a time of 4 minutes, 32.69 seconds, out of 103 entries. Andrew Straley also ran well on Saturday in the mile heats on that day.
Gavin O’Connor said, “Even though I didn’t run the best race it was still a good way to start the season.”
On Saturday, Dylan Cody, Brian Biondo, and I ran the 600m run, with times of 1 minute 34.33 seconds, 1 minute 42.07 seconds, and 1 minute, 38.03 seconds respectively.
Dylan Cody said, “It was a great way to open up the season and get back in racing form.”
Cody also ran in the 4×200 meter with Gavin O’Connor, Eamon Roache, and Carson Heggs where they placed fourth.
Roache said, “I am very pleased with the result and look forward to the season.”
Dan Speski and Cody also did the 300 meter dash where they ran times of 38.89 seconds and 41.35 seconds. Speski also participated in the pole vault before he ran the 300 meter dash.
This is not the official start of track season which begins on February 1 at Evanston. However, this is a great way to open up the track season.
