As soon as Wednesday hit, I was hyped for the game later that day. I was driving myself and four of my friends to the game. After school, my friends came over to my house, we bundled up for the game, and shortly after, started our journey to NIU. During the drive, my friend decided to go into the trunk because he said it was like a bed.
When we arrived at NIU, the parking was horrible, and employees didn’t even know which parking lots we were supposed to go to. Finally, we found the correct lot and I dressed for the Christmas theme as Buddy the Elf in yellow tights, green jacket, and wig.
After the long walk from the parking lot, we arrived at the game a little bit late and missed the first touchdown. I went down to the front row; my shoes were covered in slush, so I went up a row. However, that didn’t stop my toes from freezing. Despite feeling like my toes might fall off, I still cheered on the team.
Towards the end of the 4th quarter, everyone in the student section knew the game was over, and the team made history. When the clock struck zero, I was very happy to see a Brother Rice team win a state championship for my first time.
When the team came over to the bleachers, all the students tried to crowd down to the first couple rows to celebrate the victory. The relief I felt when I got in my car with the heat blasting was amazing, but the cold didn’t matter because the Crsusaders won a state championship.
