This state championship meant a lot more to me than many people know. Getting to see some of my best friends win the first state championship in 44 years is a crazy accomplishment. However, it’s even more special for me because of the reason that someone that I’ve basically known my whole life went and won it.
Peter Hosty has been one of my best friends since preschool, and he was the starting center for the state game. He and I have gone to the same schools together for 14 years now. His mother was also one of my teachers when we were growing up, so we’ve always had a close connection.
Knowing his family’s deep connection with Brother Rice, I know how much it meant to him, and how proud his family must be. Being able to go to the game and see him win was an amazing experience.
After the game, I went back to Brother Rice to welcome the team back. One of our other middle school friends and I congratulated him on his big accomplishment and told him how happy we were for him. Seeing him win after all the hard work he put in made me so happy and it brought back so many memories of when we were younger.
