The past few weeks have been nothing short of special on 99th and Pulaski. It wasn’t until a few weeks ago, I realized that the boys really were really going to make history and bring home a state title back home.
This was something I have always remembered the football guys talking about our freshman year. I know how hard they’ve worked these past four years, and I am really happy I got to see them finish their stories with a ring. I met a lot of the football guys playing basketball here, which is something I am extremely grateful for. They were some of the best and hardworking teammates I’ve ever had, and to see them win was awesome and well deserved. I loved being able to cheer them on from the student section with other fellow teammates and friends.
Painting my chest in the freezing cold for the Downers Grove North game is something I will never forget. Knowing that we stormed the field for the last time is something that hits a little harder now that it is all over.
The state game was a great experience. It was even better to see them beat a huge rival, especially because most of my grammar school friends go to school there. That is something I can now hold over them for the rest of my life every time we argue what school is better.
I am just happy that I made the right call and experienced history in this brotherhood. Even with all the delays and changes, the guys ended up getting the win and being able to celebrate as brothers, a really electric moment.
