Every golf season feels like it comes and goes in an instant. It has been just over a month since tryouts, and we are already locked in on the road to state.
The Brother Rice golf team has had a very successful year so far. In the first match of the year at Indian Boundary, all six Crusaders shot an 81 or below. It was the lowest team score for Brother Rice in years.
Senior captain Thor Hock has led the way for this deep Crusader team this season, consistently toward the top of the leaderboard in each match.
“I am very satisfied with my season so far,” says Hock. “We still have a long way to go, so I am very excited to compete in the postseason events and see how far we can make it.”
This team has played well over ten different courses this season in matches against various schools.
Senior Patrick Hermanson said, “My favorite course we have played this year has to be Ridge Country Club. I have been caddying there for six years, so I love getting to play out there.”
As a member of the golf team, my senior year so far has been a great experience. This is the fourth year that I have been playing with most of my teammates, and it has been a pleasure growing with them and seeing our golf games develop since freshman year.
It is now time to look forward to the regional championship at Old Oak Country Club. We have succeeded quite well as a team this season, but it is time to win a regional. Last year, the Crusaders won the regional championship, and this year, hopes are just as high. We are very familiar with the course, having played there numerous times, including our tryout rounds.
The regional championship will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 2. If Brother Rice advances, the Crusaders will compete in the sectional championship at Wedgewood Golf Club in Plainfield.
