It was happening. My brother Eric, Class of ‘10, was getting married.

Eric and I were visiting my other brother Adam, Class of ‘08, and Eric pulled out two envelopes. They both were very nice handwritten letters asking both Adam and me to be by Eric’s side on the day of his wedding. Those were two obvious acceptances.

What does being the best man mean?

A best man, or in this case best men, are people you truly care about. They always have the best intentions, stick with you through hard times, and are not afraid to make fun of your Christmas sweater you say is not ugly. I was lucky enough to have Adam help with some of the best man duties, such as scheduling the bachelor party and writing our speeches.

The day before the wedding, last-minute help was needed to make everything perfect. Being the best man meant I could give orders to different people to fix different things, such as the seating order.

The day of the wedding was a bit hectic. There was a lot of running around that morning. Eric and all of the groomsmen got breakfast together and were then supposed to get dressed.

That was the plan, but that is not what happened. Adam and I were running around everywhere to get things like our speeches, the rings, and other important items. Finally, everyone was dressed and ready to go to church.

During the ceremony, I felt so many emotions, standing there witnessing my brother marrying Sarah, a Mother McAuley graduate. They both looked so incredibly happy. Adam and I had the honor of holding onto the rings and handing them over. I talked to Adam after and he said, “I was so nervous I could barely open the ring box.” We laughed but smiled, knowing how incredibly amazing this day was, for not only Eric and Sarah, but for our two loving families.

At the reception, some faces that really stuck out for the Brother Rice community would be Mark Martinez Class of ‘10, who was a groomsman, Brian Corcoran Class of ‘10, and Nick Chibarria Class of ‘10. The friendships Eric created in high school lasted even to this day, his wedding. Mark said, “I could not be happier for Eric. I remember all the embarrassing stories we have together but my favorite memory might be this one.

Brian Corcoran said, “It is funny to see little Currier giving a best man speech. It really makes me think about all the time Eric and I have had since we were that age.”

Nick Chibarria said, “I cannot believe today is the day. I am so happy for Eric and Sarah. They truly deserve each other.”
