The Brother Rice Crusaders are looking to make their way back to the state tournament this season. After a strong run last year that came up short, the team is ready to take the next step. A host of Crusaders return to the floor, joined by new faces who hope to make an immediate impact.
Two of the biggest additions are brothers who transferred from Amos Alonzo Stagg High School. Kevin Salkauskas (6 feet 8 inches), Daniel Salkauskas (6 feet 7 inches) bring height and power that will give the Crusaders an edge inside.
The Salkauskas brothers already know the challenge in front them: “We want to be a part of something great.”
Along with the new talent, Brother Rice has a new head coach, Coach Rick Romeli from Marian Catholic. He comes in with experience and knowledge of the game, giving the program a fresh start. His leadership is already being noticed by the team.
Senior leader Joe Niego spoke highly of the change. “He is a good coach and brings a lot of wisdom to the table.” Niego said. With strong voices in the locker room and a mix of returning players and new additions, the lads feel confident about the direction of the program.
With the new coach, the size of the Stagg transfers, and the determination of a host of Crusaders, Brother Rice is aiming high. The mission is clear: fight their way back to state and bring pride to the program. This season could be the one where it all comes together.
