Wednesday, April 1, capped off a fun and exciting intramural season, with Team Hayes and Team Fitzgerald battling for the trophy. Heading into the championship, Team Hayes was undefeated at 6-0, looking like the clear favorites to win it all.
Led by seniors Oliver McNichols and Owen Hayes, they were known for their non-stop resilient offense. Continuous ball movement and screens is what made them so great. It seemed as if they never got tired while playing with also some solid defense to go along.
“We were very confident, but we knew they were a good team, also,” said senior Oliver McNichols.
Known for their size and physicality, they would be a tough matchup for Team Hayes. Coming in at 5-1 and having four football players on their team, there were miss matches all over. Led by seniors Brendan Dickman and Michael Fitzgerald, it would be a tough night ahead for Hayes.
At 8 p.m they rolled the ball out, and Team Fitzgerald came out with the win 59-33, a very dominant win by Team Fitzgerald. A closer game was anticipated but still overall a great game and season.
“We were the better team, and we went out and showed that,” said Senior Colin Goggin.
“Coming into the game our chemistry was unmatched, so during the game we were firing on all cylinders,” said senior Brendan Dickman. Who will take the crown next year?
