Just as all things begin, everything must come to an end. Sadly, as quickly as the season had begun, hockey has come to an end. On Feb. 22, the Crusaders took a devastating loss to the St. Ignatius Wolfpack. The Crusaders lost 8-4.
There were high hopes for the matchup, as it was the semifinals in the Kennedy Cup.
Senior Nathan Wilczak said, “The team was super tense for the game. We all knew what was at stake and worked extra hard at practices.”
At the end of the season, the Crusaders finished the regular season the third seed in the CCHL and with a 15-8 conference record.
As the team reflects on the season, there are a lot of positives to look back on. The Crusaders took down several top teams, took a fun trip over to Detroit, and made a run for conference.
Senior Keegan Mackey said, “This year really made me appreciate Brother Rice hockey. After taking my junior year off from school hockey, it was really fun to be back on the ice with the guys.”
On the bright side, most of the team will be back for revenge next season. With the crew coming back, there should be high hopes for the upcoming season.
On the sadder side, four senior Crusaders will not be coming next season. These are Keegan Mackey, Joe Moonan, Deven Stillo, and Nathan Wilczak. These guys always put on a show for those in the crowd.
Senior Mateo De Luna said, “The boys were always moving great and flying on the ice. They never disappointed to show out on a late night.”
Hopefully next season, we can see a breakout from the team and make a deep run in the Kennedy Cup playoffs and state series.
