On Friday, April 4, the Crusaders competed at home in their intersquad meet, the Crusader Duel. The “Black Team” led by senior captains Donovan Brown and Aldo Crema beat the “White Team” led by Gavin O’Connor. This was also technically the first outdoor meet of the season.
The meet started off with the shot put. Al Crema won the shotput while Matt Pikus and Emeir White took 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Al Crema said, “I’m just excited to start the outdoor season and can’t wait to compete.”
After the shot put the running events started. Some highlights were senior KJ Morris winning the 110-meter hurdles in his debut race and senior Gavin O’Connor and junior Andrew Straley placing first and second in the mile along with Junior Oliver Davis breaking the five-minute mark and placing third.
Davis said, “I am happy that all the hard work that I have done has paid off and that I finally broke five minutes.”
The Crusader Duel is a great way to kick off the outdoor season following a successful indoor season from the Crusaders. After winning the Indoor Catholic League Championship the Crusaders look to win the outdoor championship. This is the best team the Crusaders have had in a while, so expectations are high.
Junior Andrew Straley said, “We have a strong team and we are hoping to sweep the Catholic League Championship.”
