My whole life I have always been scared of parent teacher conferences. Although it is nice to have off from school the next day, the Thursday night of conferences always gives me butterflies in my stomach.
My brother, James, has always been smarter than me and has not had to worry about conferences. My grades often get compared to his at home, which usually do not go over too well for me.
Every time my mom comes home from parent teacher conferences, she will give me some lecture about my behavior or grades. Honesty, I would be fine without that talk with my mom. I would be alright if we did not do parent teacher conferences.
I am not the only one that does not like conferences. Senior Joe Niego said, “Conference day has always been a rough day for me at home, it is a time when I regret all the messing around I do in class.” The conferences cause problems for many kids at home, so we can probably get rid of parent teacher conferences.
I will admit some kids do like the conferences for various reasons. Senior Colin Goggin said, “I like the conferences because they show parents what my teachers think of me, and they show what I can do in the classroom.”
If we are being completely honest, I think the teachers do not like conferences either. They have to sit at a desk all day talking to parents, when they most likely have better things to do.
Theology teacher Mr. Augustyn said, “I left conferences at 8 o clock.” He did not say he does not like conferences, but I could tell he does not like them.
Thank God that was my last parent conference at Brother Rice. I wish good luck to all the underclassmen that have to suffer the wrath of their parents in the future.
