Anthony Gonzalez, a senior at Chesterton High School, played in his last regular season game against rival Valparaiso. Anthony, a former Crusader, transferred to Chesterton due to family schedule conflicts.
Senior Anthony Gonzalez said, “I had to leave due to my mom’s work schedule changing and the commute becoming a lot, but it’s one of the hardest decisions I’ve made, and I miss Brother Rice all the time.”
Current students at Brother Rice surprised Anthony by showing up to his last regular season game. The students consist of seniors Donovan Brown, Christian Pierce, Aidan Nohava, Dani White, Kris Love, Jaden Zachary, Ryan Lynch, Nick White, Cooper McAlilly, and junior Emier White. They call themselves “The Housewives.”.
Senior Donovan Brown said, “It was great to see Anthony perform against his new rival.”
Although Anthony isn’t a starter, every time Anthony got into the game you could hear “The Housewives” roaring in excitement. When Anthony went for an and-1, the whole gym yell “and-1!”. After the game, one could see the joy when Anthony saw his best friends for the first time in a while.
Gonzalez said, “Glad I still keep in contact with everyone including the ‘Housewives’.”
Anthony invited all of the Crusaders back to his house to eat Chick-Fil-A and catch up on life.
Senior Aidan Nohava said, “It’s always fun to go visit Anthony over in Chesterton. It shows the Brotherhood that is built here at Rice. Once a Crusader always a Crusader, no matter how far. Different state, different school, still family.”
