This school year, Brother Rice is introducing a new club called the National English Honors Society, which is open to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA in English. The club looks to promote literacy and provide service while honoring English activities and related subjects.
The club had their first meeting on Sept. 12, where students could fill out a form to join the club. Senior Mitch Rascop said, “I wanted to join because of my appreciation for English class, and I wanted to spread it throughout the community.”
A later meeting will nominate and vote for the people who want to take leadership roles in NEHS. Senior Nolan Leonard is running for vice president and said, “I love English and writing so that’s why I want to run for a leadership position at our next meeting.” Junior Jayden Ortiz who is also running for a spot also said, “Being a junior, I wanted to involve myself and take on the role of treasurer.”
The meeting will take place after school in Room 217 on Sept. 16. Besides elections, the members discuss the direction that the NEHS will take in the future and have the induction of all new members.
