On Saturday, Sep. 21, my brother Trey Pierce, a Brother Rice alum and reigning national champion, faced off against conference rival USC.

He said, “Playing at that level of competition and in front of that crowd never gets old, especially when you come out on top during big games like that.”

Trey Pierce is currently a true sophomore defensive tackle who appeared in 13 games his freshman year and has contributed meaningful snaps in each game so far this season. The Wolverines start the season with a 3-1 record with hopes of defending their national title this year.

Throughout Pierce’s years at Brother Rice, he has racked up quite the resume. He was named Chicago Sun-Times All-Area team (2022), Daily Southtown Football All-Area team (2022), CCL/ESCC Blue All-Conference honoree (2022), and CCL/ESCC Blue Co-Lineman of the Year (2022). According to Rivals.com, he was named a four-star prospect, the No. 16 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 7 player in Illinois.

“Brother Rice helped me learn to attack the game mentally,” said Pierce. “Being a Crusader really helped me lock into big games. Obviously, it’s not the same scale as Michigan but when you’re playing in front of 5,000 people against Marist, Mount Carmel, or Rita it translates fairly well.”

Having been to multiple surreal Michigan games, I can say Trey is right. The atmosphere and energy are like no other. One game that stands out among the rest was the 2023 Rose Bowl College Football Playoff Semifinal. The crisp breeze of the California air made for a perfect evening of football.

Pierce said, “Playing in an historical game like the Rose Bowl was one of the best experiences of my life and something I’ll never forget. That was hands down the best game I’ve been a part of. Playing Mount Carmel my junior year in the playoffs comes at close second.”

Being able to have front-row seats to the journey that Trey Pierce has gone through so far at the collegiate level has instilled a blueprint for me to follow in my older brother’s footsteps. He has been a great role model for me and my teammates in the Brother Rice community.

Trey Pierce, along with Michigan football, expects to have another great season this year.
