Last week over spring break, the Brother Rice Crusaders played Lincoln Way West, the number 2 ranked volleyball team in the state of Illinois.

Matt Funk said, ¨This game will be a good test to show what type of team we are and how well we play together.¨

In the first set of the best two out of three series, the Crusaders started out slow, eventually losing to the Warriors 25-18.

Tim Novick said, “After the first set, we knew we had to come out strong the second set if we wanted to beat the Warriors.¨

In the second set, the Crusaders got off to a quick start. The Crusaders were led by seniors Conor Doyle with 5 blocks, Tom Gallagher with 7 digs and Colin Teresi with 6 kills. Unfortunately, it was a close game until the end, but the Crusaders fell to the Warriors 25-22.

Michael Nelligan said, ¨We went into the game knowing they were a high ranked team, and we went out there and gave them a good game. We really proved we can compete.¨

With this loss, the Crusaders record falls 10-15 and Lincoln Way west record improved 26-3.
