On Feb. 20, Brother Rice wrestling competed against Oak Forest, with a final score of 44-27. Brother Rice was down 21-12 with one wrestler left. Sophomore Logan Connors got the lead for the Crusaders after his pin.

Senior James Bennett said, “We have worked really hard this season to come to this point. I am really excited to go downstate as a team and win it all.”

James has been a great wrestler for the Crusaders and has helped them a lot this season, not only as a team wrestler but also as an individual. James and a few other Crusaders made it downstate the week prior for individuals.

Senior Patrick Gilhooly said, “This is our last time wrestling as a team this weekend. We need to make everything count and can’t take this for granted.”

Brother Rice wrestling went 19-5 going into state as a team. This team has shown that age doesn’t matter. This team is extremely young and has a lot to prove in the next couple of years.

Junior Jimmy Crane said, “Going down to state as an individual and as a team has been a great experience. Not a lot of kids get to say they have done that. I am extremely blessed.”

Brother Rice will wrestle at the University of Illinois this weekend. The team will compete against Mahomet-Seymour at 5:00 P.M. Good luck to the wrestling team and hopefully they bring home the championship.
