On behalf of the Members of Brother Rice High School, Inc., the Brother Rice Sponsor Council, and the Board of Directors, Chairman James Kramer is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Donahue as the next President of Brother Rice High School. Mr. Donahue is no stranger to Brother Rice and its families, having served three terms on the Board from 2007-2016. He has great familiarity with Brother Rice’s many successes and traditions and is ready to embrace the challenges that lie ahead.
Mr. Donahue has spent the past thirty-six years in the insurance industry where he rose to the position of Regional Vice President for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. “His sharp business acumen and his strong management skills will be a great complement to the academic qualifications of the school’s administrative team,” noted Kramer. Although Donahue will officially begin his duties on January 1, he plans to be a very visible presence at the school in the coming weeks as he works with outgoing President, Dr. Kevin Burns, and the staff to ensure a smooth transition.
In response to the appointment, Donahue has stated, “I am eagerly looking forward to this new role, continuing the work to fulfill our mission and successfully grow our Brother Rice community.” For his part, Dr. Burns has no doubts that the Board made a great decision: “I have worked closely with Mark over the years and am extremely confident that he will provide exemplary leadership to Brother Rice moving forward.”
Donahue, a 1974 graduate of Brother Rice, is a member of the Brother Rice Hall of Fame and a charter member of its Circle of Champions. After a stellar football career at Brother Rice, he went on to star at the University of Michigan from 1974-78, where he was a two time All-American for the Wolverines and led them to three Big Ten championships and three bowl appearances including two Rose Bowls and one Orange Bowl. He played professionally with the Cincinnati Bengals for two seasons before beginning his career in insurance. Mr. Donahue is the married father of two adult sons and resides in Beverly with his wife, Kathleen. In his spare time, he is an avid cyclist and triathlete.
All members of the Brother Rice community extend their very sincere congratulations to Mark Donahue on his appointment!
