On Monday, Oct. 14, Brother Rice held a hygiene product drive. This drive supported the Maple Morgan Park Food Pantry. Students brought hygiene products into the main gym and had them on display during the Academic and Service Honors Pep Rally.
Senior Jay Jilek, an avid member of the Advocacy Club, said, “It was a great turnout. We were able to collect multiple tables full of hygiene items of all types that will really help the community. I was glad to be a part of it.”
The Brother Rice community is very active in various advocacy efforts, including this hygiene drive. The school held an Academic and Service Honors Pep Rally honoring the students who give back to the community and the school. Brother Rice gives students many opportunities to be an advocate in the community, including Edmund Rice Camp, immersion trips, and drives like this one.
Junior Brady Gomez thought the drive was a success: “I felt that it was a very useful, effective, and kind thing the Brother Rice community did for those in need. Even though some brought more than others, every little bit counts.”
Senior Jack Weigus said, “The hygiene drive was a great model of Brother Rice working together to help those in need and collectively helping others.”
Brother Rice will continue to uphold the mission of Edmund Rice by holding more events like this one and supporting those in need.
